About The Event
Neglected diseases like leprosy affect 1.7 billion people worldwide – that’s 1 in 5 of us. Effect Hope is the only Canadian Christian global health organization exclusively focused on addressing diseases like leprosy. We are thrilled to partner with acclaimed Christian author Philip Yancey to share this message of hope with you. In a world that often seems dark, it can be easy to lose sight of the things that truly matter.
Together we will rediscover the power of hope and the difference it can make in our daily lives. Philip will also share his perspectives on understanding the purpose of pain, and how to make sense of human suffering.
Philip Yancey’s writings have impacted millions of people around the world. He has a unique gift for blending deep theological insights with practical wisdom, and his books have been translated into dozens of languages.
A Talk With Philip Yancey
Phillip Yancey, The Author
In his book, The Gift of Pain, Phillip recounts the story of a woman he met in India who had lost all feeling in her fingers due to leprosy. Although the numbness of her hands prevented her from feeling pain, it also put her health at risk. Without pain, she wouldn’t know if she was injured, and the injury could go undetected and untreated for weeks or months.
Injuries like this can result in long-term damage due to infection, cause disability and sometimes death.
Philip’s new memoir, “Where The Light Fell” is a deeply personal and honest reflection on his own journey of faith. In this book, Philip shares his struggles, doubts, and questions as he wrestles with some of the most difficult aspects of the Christian faith. But through it all, he never loses sight of the hope that sustains him and the love that drives him forward.
