The lights dimmed, the stage came to life, and hope rang out with every note. This past Christmas, Jorian Hapeman, a 26-year-old jazz pianist from Fredericton, New Brunswick, brought together some of Canada’s finest east-coast jazz musicians for A Gift of Hope — a Christmas concert fundraiser where 100% of the proceeds supported Effect Hope.
With the support of drummer Jon Bailey, upright bass player Jason Flores, and guest singer Grayson LaPointe, Jorian began the evening with special renditions of “O Christmas Tree” and “Christmas Time is Here” (from Charlie Brown Christmas). He then led the audience on a two-hour journey through his own Christmas-carol-jazz-arrangements, including a brand-new song specifically written for the concert, fittingly called “Hope“. Jorian spoke passionately about the work of Effect Hope, shared our new brand video, and invited his audience to consider giving through our 2025 Gift Catalogue.
This concert was a true celebration of family and community. Jorian’s friends and family stepped in as ushers, baked for the cafe, and managed the sound and lighting — all with the understanding their efforts were helping serve people around the world overcome disease, disability and discrimination.
From one musician’s vision came a spectacular concert that raised over $5000 (and counting), bringing hope to the most vulnerable. Thank you, Jorian Hapeman!
