Peter Derrick, Executive Director, effect:hope and supporter
If you are like I am, you realize your life is full of turning points. Decisions we make today bring about important changes in the future — becoming part of our personal legacy.
In my own life, I think back to the time when I struggled with finding employment that engaged both my aptitude for business and my great passion for social well-being. While I was happy in the business world, and later on serving as a Minister, in the back of my mind I knew, “Life is short, and I really want to use my talents and energy to bring joy and meaning to others.”
My life took a new direction when I was hired to lead what had long been my favourite charity, effect:hope. It was a decision I have never regretted.
I do everything I can to be God’s instrument of love and healing
The miracles of healing and hope that happen every day don’t happen because we’re extraordinary people, they happen because we give from our hearts. God has asked us to care about people with leprosy, and we do.
When you and I serve those affected by leprosy, we become extensions of grace. Our love and compassion are invested through us to become grace extended to people who need it most. And it doesn’t end there. They can once again have a welcome place in their community, which is such a precious gift.
My wife and I have made a gift in our Wills to effect:hope. This simple kindness—tremendously powerful in scope—is perhaps the ultimate gift. It is one that will keep on giving for generations to come.
I invite you to join us. After ensuring your loved ones are provided for, your lasting gift to effect:hope will send the message to people with leprosy, “You are precious in the eyes of God and in the eyes of others.”
