Challenge
Leprosy is still being diagnosed too late in Bangladesh—especially in children. This delay leads to disabilities, stigma, and social rejection that could be prevented with early care. Despite progress, Grade 2 disability (G2D) remains a clear sign that too many cases are still slipping through the cracks.
Solution
The latest phase of the Proyash program strengthens Bangladesh’s health system, equipping it to deliver high-quality, accessible and sustainable leprosy care.
Outcomes
- Trains health workers to deliver a standardized Essential Package of Leprosy Care
- Implements an active case-finding program across 23 districts
- Educates communities and schools to reduce stigma
- Improves government data and referral systems
- Promotes gender equity and mental health support in all programming
