Our Work in Nigeria
We’re committed to improving the lives of people affected by neglected tropical diseases in Nigeria. Through projects like LivEx and HOPE, we focus on both physical and mental well-being by integrating self-care, peer support, and mental health services.
Together with local partners, we’re empowering individuals and communities to overcome stigma, build supportive networks, and access better healthcare.
By partnering with local organizations and training NTD champions and healthcare workers, we help strengthen the health system and promote lasting change for thousands of families and communities across Nigeria.

Nigeria at a Glance
- Over 100 million people are at risk of neglected tropical diseases.
- Over 40% of the population lives below the poverty line, with significant gaps in healthcare access.
- Healthcare infrastructure is limited, with only 1 doctor for every 5,000 people.
- Over 10 million children are out of school, and many children in rural areas face barriers to education.
- Access to clean water and sanitation remains a challenge, particularly in rural areas.
Programs in Nigeria
LivEx
Leprosy, lymphatic filariasis (LF), and buruli ulcer aren’t just disfiguring—they’re devastating to a person’s mental health.
HOPE
The HOPE Project—short for “Harmonised Model for Optimizing Peer Support Group Effectiveness”—is a 3-year initiative starting in January 2025. It focuses on improving the long-term success of peer support groups (PSGs) for people affected by skin-related neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) like leprosy, buruli ulcer, and lymphatic filariasis in Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire.
