Leprosy is not a relic of history—it persists as a global reality that impacts millions of people. Every day, hundreds of lives are forever changed by a diagnosis many believe no longer exists. Despite advances in medicine, leprosy continues to devastate communities in over 100 countries worldwide.
Imagine losing sensation in your hands, watching your vision fade, or being cast aside by your community. For millions, this is their life. Leprosy is a chronic, infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae. It attacks the skin, nerves, and eyes, leading to permanent disfigurement, disability, and, in many cases, social isolation. Even after treatment, the scars—both physical and emotional—can last a lifetime.
The good news is that leprosy is curable—and you can be part of the solution. Just $44 a month for one year provides everything one person needs to recover: diagnosis, medication, treatment, mobility devices, and follow-up care.
Meet Esther
Esther is a mother of eight in Liberia who noticed strange patches on her skin 20 years ago. With no access to care, her condition worsened, leaving her unable to feel or use her feet. In 2024, our local teams found Esther. We diagnosed her, provided free medication, and connected her family to vital community support. But even now, Esther faces stigma. Fearing eviction, she keeps her diagnosis a secret, telling others she has diabetes.
